Agriculture and Food Security

Farm Program and field trips to the Esther Manor Farm www.esthermanorfarm.com helps youth and young adults build personal, social, and professional skills while working on the farm, preparing food, and learning about sustainable agriculture, food access, and nutrition. Using hands-on activities, we provide opportunities for them to learn where their food comes from and employ nutritionally sound diets, to contribute to their personal development, and to improve total family diet and nutritional well-being. We engage youth and adults at the farm to table dinner events. When participating in events, youth are offered real world planning and engagement opportunities as well as an introduction to the community as leaders in the local food movement.

Education and Integrated Training

Our  programs are designed to help individuals acquire a combination of critical thinking, digital literacy, and self-management skills. Employability skills address competencies in using resources and information, working with others, understanding systems to successfully transition to postsecondary education and employment. Our mentoring program is structured, well-functioning, and strategically planned to connect people, increase knowledge and build skills for future goals and milestones.

Disability Inclusion

Working with Laptop at Home

Our  programs seek to include individuals with disabilities in everyday activities and ensure they have access to resources and opportunities in ways that are similar to their non-disabled peers. Inclusion programs are multifaceted and involve a variety of approaches across cultures and settings. We ensure that people of differing abilities visibly and palpably belong to, are engaged in, and are actively connected to the overall goals and objectives of the organization.

Community and Leadership Development

Our program builds skills and support the development of emerging leaders through a series of seminars, workshops and other initiatives. The program seeks individuals who want to improve their community and give voice to traditionally under-represented voices. We work with other community development and civic organizations, groups and public bodies that are engaged with public issues to support long-term impact on the social, economic, and environmental well-being of the community.

Being able to communicate, live, and work with people across cultures is a crucial skill in today’s world. Through farming, social and cultural events, our programs will provide appropriate interaction to support the following:

  • Curiosity: Exploring what we don’t understand

  • Cognitive complexity: Seeing through many perspectives

  • Empathy: Understanding and adapting to different cultural styles
